77/365 baseball

I hope y'all like baseball because there's likely to be quite a bit of it over the next few months. Tomorrow is opening day and Matthew's first official game is Tuesday night. Tonight, they had a practice game and then got their uniforms.

{iso640, f4, ss 1/250. All 3 batting shots have the same settings}

Both feet off the ground. {iso100, f3.5, ss 1/400}

{same settings as above}

They don't really keep score for practice games but Matthew tells me that his team won ;-)

The first 3 were shot with the 70-200mm 4L and the last 2 with the 50mm 1.4. All of them were shot through the fence. I really dislike shooting through that darn fence.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

WEll, now I am curious about your beautiful shots. Did you have the lens right up against the fence, or because of where your focus points were, did the fence disappear? I know how to do that, and use the technique for zoo shots, but my fences never really go entirely away....the edges of the picture will have vague blurred lines. So, how did you do it?

I like these! Think of the fence as protecting you because you wouldn't see the ball coming at you otherwise! ;-)

i rented the 70 - 200 2.8L for my daughters gymnastics meet...it is soooooooo heavy.

Even your action shots taken through a fence are so sharp and crisp! How in the heck do you do that???

ah, my fav lens 70-200, wish I had the 2.8, maybe some day. Baseball is just starting up here and I will be on the field until mid-August.

great shots, I never tire of baseball shots :) embrace the fence, a little protection. If I shoot in the open, I always make sure someone is closeby watching for a ball.

Great captures! We are thinking about enrolling my oldest in softball this summer. We tried soccer last spring....he pretty much just stood there watching others go back and forth...lol. We are thinking that softball would be more of an immediate result kind of thing.
