Baseball, again

I've been holding off on doing a new post because I wanted to wait until after I had pictures of Matthew pitching for the first time. But his last 2 games have been rained out. Hopefully it'll stay nice tomorrow so he can play. He's very excited about pitching. I can't wait to watch him do it.
I found a link to an article on getting sharp eyes in photos last night through a group on Flickr. If any one is interested, the article is here: http://blog.amywenzel.com/2009/10/15/10-tips-for-a-sharper-image/ I have been reading the rest of Amy's blog since then. She lives in Grand Rapids. If I still lived there, I'd be searching her out, begging her to let me work for her. LOL
I took Em outside real quick a bit ago to try some of what she suggested. I've also been working on my post processing/editing skills so I'm going to post a before and after. The before does have some editing done to it. The after has more fine-tuning though.

And one of Matthew just because :-)

Softball
Got a few shots of Em last night at her game. Excuse the quality-they were shot at 800 & 1600 ISO. My camera doesn't really like anything above 400.
Warming up before the game.

Out in center field, ready to go.

Taking a few practice swings before her turn up to bat.

She got hit in the side with the ball on the 2nd pitch so she got to take first base.

On 2nd

Contemplating stealing 3rd.

On 3rd

She got out on the way home. She's doing pretty well, for not ever playing before. A little more practice and confidence and she'll do even better.

Fall ball and other fun stuff
First, week something or other of Em's 52 weeks. I'm thinking I might as well give up at this point. Maybe I'll make it a once a month project ;-)

Parent/Teacher conferences were yesterday and I met with Joshua's teacher. He is doing pretty well overall but does have some things he needs to work on. Since he is at the Developmental Therapy program in the mornings, he misses some important stuff in his regular class. So we need to work on getting him caught up. There are a few behavioral issues too but not anything too bad. Nothing like it was last year. And he absolutely loves school. And he's made a friend in his class too!
Fall ball is in full swing. (Get it? Full swing? Anyway....) Emaleigh and Matthew are having a great time and learning a lot. They each have 2 games a week along with one practice so there's a lot of baseball/softball in our lives right now. I love watching them play though.
Speaking of swinging, Matthew has gotten some hits the last few games.

See the ball in the top right corner? He hit it!

Run Matthew!

He got out :-( But that's okay. Cause in the spring he wouldn't even swing at it.
Em's games are all at 7:30 and it's already dark by then. Dark and action shots don't work well together but maybe I'll try to get some of her at a practice or warming up before a game.

Camping
We just got back from a great weekend of camping in Kentucky with our fabulous friends Marc and Michelle and their kids Kayleigh and Ryan. Michelle and I went to high school together and all 4 of us went to Western Michigan University. Anyway, we toured Mammoth Caves, made s'mores, played cards and relaxed. It was wonderful. Can't wait to do it again!

Marc, roughing it ;-)

Marc and Chelle taught us how to make "eclairs."

Ryan and Matthew. Making eclairs is hard work and takes a lot of concentration.

Joshua, enjoying the end result.

Silly Ryan.

Just Chillin'.

Kayleigh. Is she gorgeous, or what? Looks like her mom.
Somehow I didn't get any pictures of Emaleigh. And I should have had someone take one of me and Chelle. But I didn't think about it until we were half way home. Next time :-) Can't wait to do it again guys!

The first full week of school is just about over and almost everyone has survived it. Joshua is home this afternoon because he got in trouble at recess. There's a plan to deal with it in the future and the vice principal said something about Josh that totally made my day. I would rather Joshua not get into trouble at all but since that's probably not going to happen, it's great to know that he's being dealt with by someone who genuinely likes him.
Fall baseball/softball season has started. Matthew had his first practice on Tuesday and Em has hers tonight. And Em got on my friend Bobbie's team, so I'm happy :-)
I'm getting my new (to me) lens on Tuesday and I'm super excited. I kinda wish I was going to have it for my family session tomorrow though. Oh well.
And I'll end with a few pictures of Matthew, since he almost never lets me take pictures of him-unless he's making goofy faces. My sweet boy.......

1st Day!
Everyone survived the 1st day of school with no problems :-) They all like their teachers-well, Em isn't so sure about her Lang. Arts teacher but we'll see how it goes. They all have friends in their classes. And the only one with homework today is me. All the "update" forms that need to be filled out.
Joshua, 1st grade

Matthew, 5th grade

Just some rambling....
It's been raining pretty much every afternoon/evening this week, including right now. That's great, we need the rain. But I have a newborn session this evening that I won't be able to do if there isn't enough light :-(
I was introduced to Pandora Radio yesterday by an online friend and LOVE it. It's so cool. Yesterday I was listening to 80s music and today it's praise and worship. Awesomeness.
The kids are getting excited about school starting. Well, let's rephrase that. They're excited to do the back to school shopping. They keep asking me when we're going to go get all the new school supplies, outfits and shoes. But they don't actually want to go back to school. With the exception of Joshua. He wants to go back so he can use his Speed Racer lunch box again.
I've been reminded several times recently just how good I have it. I am truly blessed, in every way. I need to remember that more often.
And I can't post without a picture! So here's one of Joshua from the other day at the park, where he actually cooperated!

Bikes and Softball

Joshua is really enjoying riding his bike lately. He loves to race down the "hill." That boy is a little dare devil-doesn't even slow down around the curve.
My fabulous friend Bobbie asked me last night to take team pictures for her softball team. She coaches a 12U travel softball team that her daughter Taylor also plays on. Anyway, we've been working out details for all that. I'm excited about it.
Emaleigh wants to play softball this year and I'm hoping she will get on Bobbie's team (not the travel team). She has never played before. Matthew also wants to play baseball again this fall. I'm looking forward to watching them play and can't wait to get my new (to me) lens so I can get pictures. I'm buying a Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L USM lens from my flickr friend Ellen. Yay! So excited :-)

Week 20 and banana bread
My new favorite picture of Emaleigh. I think I'm going to get this one printed out so I can put it in the house somewhere.

Week 20.
And a few extras from our little photo shoot yesterday, cause I like them all so much :-)

Emaleigh made banana bread yesterday. Her first time cooking mostly by herself (I helped a little). I was starting to cook/bake at her age so it's time she learned too. She did well and everyone enjoyed banana bread for breakfast this morning.

(Taking pictures of food is definitely not my thing)
