156/365 youth sunday

You may recognize some of these faces from yesterday's post. Sunday, June 5th, the youth group took over at church. They did everything from greeting at the doors and ushering to leading worship and giving the sermon. Not only are they a lot of fun to be around, they are also an amazing group of kids. They are always willing to serve and volunteer in any way they are needed. JB and the other adult leaders do a fantastic job with them and I'm thrilled my kids get to be a part of such an awesome group. I'm going to apologize again for more than the normal amount of pictures posted. Not as many as yesterday's but still more than the normal one or two. My goal for the rest of this week is to only post one picture a day. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read and comment on my super long posts lately.

The official photo for day 156:

A group of the kids put on a skit. I'm glad I was taking pictures to distract me, otherwise I would have been crying {I cry at commercials too, though ;-) }.

Damon giving the sermon. He did an awesome job.

The lighting in our church is very difficult. There are no windows and the lights up front are colored red and yellow. Makes for nice lighting in person but is horrible for taking pictures. There is also a row of spot lights pointing straight down where Damon was standing and where Mercy was walking back and forth in the skit. So I decided it was a good day to go all B&W. Settings on these are:
ISO 3200 {as high as it goes}
F2.8
SS at an average of 1/80, depending on the photo.

Here is a video of the skit the kids did. They changed it a bit and I think I like their version better :-)

I'm glad you shared your settings as I still really struggle in situations like this and think B/W was definitely the way to go. The pics are great and your kids are awesome! You've done a great job with them Mom!

I agree. Great job in a poorly lit situation. These are the hardest to deal with.

And I'm the same way. Grateful to have my camera to focus on when my kids are performing or else I'm a puddle on the floor.
