week 10, cupcakes and my camera's back.

week 10
Week 10/52 March 12, 2009

Cake
Cupcakes for Joshua's class at school.

I got my camera back! And the auto focus works! Both of these pictures were taken using it. I'm taking the cupcakes up to Joshua's school later for his birthday. Then we have the IEP meeting this afternoon. Today his class gets to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up. Joshua went to school dressed as a firefighter.

So now that my camera is back and working correctly, I can start working on "the plan." I need to get an email ready to go out. I already asked Joe to help me with a website so we should probably start that. I also need to get Matthew's baseball schedule so I can work around that. I'm very, very nervous about this whole thing.

That part about the firefighter outfit made me smile (and well up with tears a bit).

OK, what kind of camera and lens do you have? I have a 1 year old Canon XSi with a 28-105 USM Canon lens from my old film-days Elan...I'm totally winging it with this digital stuff...half my kid photos are either a washed-out-but-focussed flash disaster or a blurry-mess-great-color-photo. I'm just glad that food stays still...but even that gets cranky as the sun goes down! I need your photographic genetics.

Megan-I have an XTi and I almost always use my 50mm f1.8 lens. My advice-learn how to use manual mode (if you aren't already) and avoid the flash like the plague. If you're outside, be careful of where the sun is. Shade is the best. Shooting in RAW will also give you more options, as long as you have the editing software to do it. Hope that helps :-) Every picture I've seen that you've posted on your blog looks fantastic!
